Harvest of Diamonds: Our Annual Field’s Pond Ice Harvest

Come out onto Field’s Pond and see how large cakes of ice, once Maine’s second-largest crop, were harvested to keep the world cool.

 

Saturday, March 24, 2012:

Curran Homestead Spring Fling: Our annual Maple Syrup Festival, Irish Celebration, and Egg Hunt

We’ll be turning sap into maple syrup on the woodstove, there will be Irish music and food, and children can seek colored eggs in the farmyard and win a prize.

 

Saturday, April 28, 2012:

Girl Scout program: Living-history workshops at the farm. Girl Scouts: Consult your local troop leader for details.

 

 

New for 2012: Beginning May 1, we will hold Open House at The Curran Homestead from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday through September 30.  Please contact us for alternate arrangements.

 

 

Saturday, May 19, 2012:

Power from the Past: Spring engine gas-up with the Maine Antique Power Association: Come see antique engines in operation, some still earning their keep after a century (or more!) of service. 

Jitterbug/Doodlebug Pulling Challenge. : Cleverly-engineered c. 1930 vehicles will pull tons and tons of weight in an exciting challenge to see who gets the “bragging rights!”

Annual Yard Sale Fundraiser: Blowout in the Barnyard.  One man’s trash is another man’s treasure; come and find yours at our sale. Please note: All items for sale have been donated for the express purpose of generating operating revenue for the farm; none have been removed from the museum collection.

Annual Summer Festival in conjunction with Maine Open Farm Day on July 22, 2012

Jitterbug Pulling Challenge

Come see cleverly-engineered c. 1930 vehicles pull tons and tons of weight in an exciting challenge to see who gets the “bragging rights!”

 

 

Saturday, October 20, 2012:

Annual Harvest Festival. The crops are in and the woodshed is full; another season is upon us. The cider press will be turning, and we will be baking cookies in the oven of the kitchen’s wood cookstove. Come and sample the fruits of our labor amidst the beauty of autumn at Field’s Pond.
